Thing #22

Almost done! This thing I have experience with. Unfortunately, I have an iPod, so I bought the cheapest mp3 player I could find that was compatible. And now I'll be getting another one! I'm not sure what to do about that. Well, even though I had used the eAudiobooks, I hadn't used NetLibrary, so I still needed to make an account and everything. That was easy enough, though. I looked up a few things I want to read/listen to eventually, but wasn't able to find some things. I'm not sure what determines whether or not the books are up there, but I'm surprised the Harry Potter books aren't up there. I'm sure I'll be able to find things, though. Right now I'm listening to Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events while I exercise or when I drive to school sometimes. It's really nice not needing to switch cds, and mp3 players keep where you left off for some time. Very convenient!

Thing #21

Well! I liked what I've found with this thing. I knew this kind of thing was out there, but this has forced me to go look. I found a few podcasts that seem to review books or discuss books. Very nice. I will definitely go home and add these things to my bloglines list. That kind of thing about books would be great.. And I like how a lot of these things are free! That's the best. I wouldn't want to make one myself, but I will certainly enjoy what other people do.

Thing #20

Now YouTube is something I already knew about, for once. I think any teenager with access to the internet knows about YouTube. It's really useful. I've only uploaded something myself once, that I wanted to show a friend, but it made it possible. I can't e-mail someone a video of any sort of quality, so that was really handy.

As for how it could be used with libraries.. I'm not sure. Maybe a tour of the library for someone who hasn't come here and is looking online? Or even for someone who does come here, but doesn't quite understand the organization. I'm not sure.

So, this is a video I already knew about. Haha, it's just some silly thing someone made and then posted. I loved it, though, when I first saw it. Now sometimes when I think something is cool, and whoever I'm with has seen that video, I might exclaim, "Mathematical!" or "Rhombus!"

Thing #19

I, of course, zipped right to the book 2.0 tools. I found Reader, which is great. I registered. I wish I could read faster and be able to read more of these books I want to read.

So! Reader has all the things I like. I can add books, I can review books, I can look for books like what I like to read.. and so on. There's nothing to dislike about all that! Of course, it's not hugely popular yet, so some of my more obscure authors don't help me out. But that just takes time!

Thing #18

Wow! I had no idea these web-based applications were out there. Talk about handy! My laptop has WordPerfect, which I pretty much hate. I should try this instead. It's hard for me to see, at this point, the web-based replacing the desktop version. But maybe one day it will! Probably not too far away if it is going to happen.

There are really a lot of options available on that application. I was surprised. Basically everything you'd get in a desktop application is there. Anything I use anyway. That could be handy as well, if I'm writing something and switching between my latop and my desktop.. I wouldn't have to make sure it's in a shared folder and that the other computer is on. Nice!

Thing #17

I didn't realize you could have quite that much freedom with a wiki. I liked reading through the favorite books of many people.. I saw someone put down Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which I've just started. Glad to see it's somebody's favorite! One of these days I will have to sit down and really explore these things. So little time these days, though!

Thing #16

I'm on a roll today!

I immediately went to the BookLoversWiki when I saw that on the list. Very nice. I looked through and found some books I like, or books I've wanted to check out, and saw what the reviews were. I really like it! I'll have to add that to my RSS feeds.

I'm not sure how things like that could be used within the library.. I suppose being able to have customer review type things, like Amazon, would be neat. Being able to get recommendations. Or see what other things people check out similar to what I'd be looking at. I'm usually looking at those things on Amazon anyway, as I look to see what the library has. It'd be nice to be able to have those resources on the library site.
